"Proving Contraries": A Collection of Writings in Honor of Eugene England BYUI Professor Eugene England inspired this collection of poems, short stories, reminiscences, and scholarly articles— likewise inspiring readers with a better understanding of Mormonism. While reading through my currently featured book, Proving Contraries (Signature, ), I've been stewing over the title. It bothers me. The phrase comes from a Joseph Smith quote ("By proving contraries, truth is made manifest") and it sounds like just the sort of thing that would thrill a writer — a creative phrase that springs some verbal tension on the reader, hence its use as the title.

The Proving was such a delightful book. I just really enjoyed it. A good part of the story took place in Gordonville, Pennsylvania, at an Amish Bed and Breakfast. Ive actually been to Gordonville and have stayed in an Amish bed and breakfast, so this book was especially fun/5.

The Proving by Beverly Lewis is a wonderful book and I highly reccomend it. After leaving the community five years ago under difficult cercumstances Mandy (Amanda Dienner) now comes home after finding out her mother has passed suddenly and has left her her beloved B&B.
